Permits are required for lawn sprinkler systems, decks, patio covers, re-roofing, re-siding, remodels, additions, basement finishing and similar projects. Permits are not required for fences under six feet in height, utility sheds having less than 120 square feet of roof area or most concrete flatwork such as sidewalks. The placement of fences must comply with regulations related to clear vision zones for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Utility sheds must maintain varying setbacks from the property line in accordance with the particular zoning district in which they are located. There are specific requirements related to projects such as the widening of a driveway. Applications for building permits are available in the Public Works Office at 1100 37th Street.
